The CCTV Guide

What is CCTV? How does it work? Where can I buy Security Equipment from? Well before we answer that for you, lets have a look at a few things here.

1) CCTV stands for Closed Circuit Television. A CCTV system would primarily consist of CCTV cameras and in most cases connected to a recording device. CCTV security systems are used to monitor events or areas where there is a concern for security and safety and records images of those scenes. Of course CCTV has come a long way now and a range of additional features are used in conjunction with the systems which we will explore in a future blog.

2) So how does it work? The cctv cameras collects images and sends the signal to a recorder. The recorder, or now commonly known as a DVR [ Digital Video Recorder ] would digitally store the images. The images are viewed on a TV Monitor. The quality of the camera, usually measured in TVL [ Television Lines ] and the focal length of the lens on the camera would determine what the user sees on the monitor.

3) Where can I buy CCTV Equipment From? There are many vendors of CCTV equipment, and with ever growing interest in Surveillance, many manufacturers, distributors and installers are popping up.
